State & District Service

  • Founder & CEO, Gregory B. Levett & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory, established August 1980 and currently features four funeral homes as well as an off-site crematory serving over 2,200 families annually.

  • Gregory B. Levett & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory employs over 130 full and part-time staff from the greater Atlanta area.

  • Licensed third generation funeral director since 1973.

  • Member of the GFSPA 7 th District since 1978. Served as district chair for six years, sergeant at arms for two years, second and third vice president, president, and chairman of the board for GFSPA.

  • Elected board of directors member for the GFSPA since 1988 and has held every elected position on the board.

  • Three-Time convention chairman, serving under three separate state presidents.

National Service

  • Active member of the NFDMA since 1988

  • Elected corporate secretary of the NFDMA in 1994

  • Dr. Levett has attended every NFDMA convention since 1990 apart from the 2004 convention that he missed due to the passing of his father the day before.

  • National positions within the NFDMA include his service as corporate secretary, vice president, president, and chairman of the board from 1994-1999. He has also served as the contract committee chairman for four years and the search committee vice chair for 1 year.

  • Appointed as fundraising chairman for four years and was instrumental in the establishment of the NFDMA national office while overseeing the project as the construction supervisor.

Community Service

  • Active member of the Board of Directors Executive Committee for DeKalb Medical Center

  • Past president of the DeKalb Chapter for the 100 Black Men of America

  • Current member of the board of directors for the 100 Black Men of America

  • Former president of the Salem Gate Merchant Association

  • Former Stone Mountain Board of Directors member

  • Former North Carolina Mutual Insurance Board of Directors member

  • Former DeKalb Chamber of Commerce board member

  • Only active African American member of the Emory Healthcare Board of Directors overseeing a $6B annual budget.

Philanthropy & Awards

  • Barack Obama Lifetime Achievement Award recipient

  • Voted 2015 Funeral Director of the Year by American Funeral Director Magazine

  • Over $2M in donations through the Levett Family Foundation, including $500K to the Allen University School of Education.

  • W.W. King Bridge Builder Award recipient, DeKalb County

  • Ph. D in Humane Letters from Allen University, 2019
